2010 International Conference on Ophiocordyceps

Ophiocordyceps sinensis is a precious species found at the Tibetan Plateau
at an altitude of 3000 m to 5000 m. It is of distinct healthcare and medicinal functions,
and is named as "The Three Treasures of Chinese Medicine" together with ginseng
and deer violet. Nowadays, as a rare Chinese medicine and tonic, Ophiocordyceps sinensis
draws great interests among consumers home and abroad as well as the research circle. |
| For the purpose of discussing Ophiocordyceps sinensis resource management, regulating the order of collection and market, sharing scientific research results, strengthening international exchange and cooperation, protecting bio-diversity, safeguarding the coordinated social, economic and environmental development of production areas and achieving sustainable growth of local farmers' income, the first session of Regional Conference on Ophiocordyceps sinensis Resource Management and Trade was held in Bhutan in April 2009. Delegations from China, India, Bhutan and Nepal as well as representatives from the WWF and ICIMOD attended the Conference. At the Conference, it was agreed that the four related countries would host the international conference on Ophiocordyceps sinensis each year in turn, and the 2010 International Conference on Ophiocordyceps sinensis would be held in Xining, Qinghai Province of China. |

Qinghai Province locates in the Northeast of Tibetan Plateau, and is of diversified
and complex topography with lowland in the west and highland in the east. Most of
the area in the Province is of an altitude of 3000 m to 5000 m. It is also the origin
area of the Yangtze River, the Yellow River and the Lantsang River. The Province
is of abundant natural resources, long history and rich culture background, as well
as one of the six large ranges and a major animal production base in China. With
rich quality Ophiocordyceps sinensis resources, it is also the major production
area of Ophiocordyceps sinensis, while products of its origin enjoy a wide
and famed market all over the world. |
